That combined with the fact that they referred to the members of the Lominsan fraternity as "scoundrels" and not "Thieves" seems like a nod to the base class nomenclature. I strongly think Thief will be its own Job- there is a point where Yugiri speaks to Thancred and says "You WERE using 1 blade but now you use two." Seems like a pretty obvious hint that Thancred adopted a job and altered his fighting style.

If thief is a job I highly suspect it will be a support/dps similar to Bard, except that it will focus on enemy debuffs and damage instead of party buffs and damage. Download 2,103 Sneaky Stock Illustrations, Vectors & Clipart for FREE or amazingly low rates New users enjoy 60 OFF.

If its a dps: it will probably be a melee-magic dps (there currently is physical AND magical ranged dps, but only physical melee dps, so there is a space for this). They used their weapons not just to kill but to help them climb stone walls, to sneak into a castle or observe their enemies. Otherwise watch a video of this level first, so it takes your fear away. My take: if ninja is a tank it will be what everyone expects - using magical abilities to get aggro and avoid damage. Personally it helped me to say Fk dat, im a sneaky ninja to myself. While Thieves (Thancred) seem to have melee capabilities as well as some ranged use (he keeps throwing knives and stuff) He is sneaky and he is goofy - the legendary thief: Mr Rumble. Ninjas (Yugiri) will have magic-type effects (whether those will be used for tanking or for dpsing we cannot yet know.)

Even the presence of dogs, birds, and the flashes of lightning that occur on some levels evoke Klei’s 2D stealth side-scroller. If we take cues from the past and also from the cut-scenes where we see Yugiri and Thancred fighting- With a binary visibility model and audibility determined by movement speed rather than surface properties, Thief feels like an attempt to replicate the clarity and readability of Mark of the Ninja in three dimensions.
